St. Paul (Mt. Pleasant) Lutheran Church was organized in 1857. The first was built as a Union Church on little more than an acre of land deeded to the congregation by Abraham Miller for the sum of $30.00. The 1857 date is verified on a marble slab that was in the front gable of this original church building. It is now the cornerstone of the present church building inscribed as follows:

Mount Pleasant
St. Paul's Lutheran
and German Reformed
Built A.D. 1857

The congregation was officially granted a charter, December 16, 1862. The wording of the charter reads: Evangelical Lutheran and German Reformed Congregation of St. Paul Church at Mt. Pleasant, Hopewell Township, York Co. Pennsylvania.

In 1926 the present church building was built across the road from the original church and cemetery. Total cost of the new building was $22,618.00 of which $19,793.06 had been received in cash or pledges by the time of the dedication on September 12, 1926. This church building continues to be a place of worship for many descendants of the original members as well as for other families who have moved to this area through the years
